Man with Mesothelioma files Second-Hand Exposure Suit
February 8, 2007 - Citing asbestos exposure from his father's clothing, a Chicago man has filed a lawsuit claiming he contracted Mesothelioma due to second hand exposure. The suit names over 130 companies as defendants and was filed in Cook County Illinois late last year. Dennis Yanchick's dad worked for Elgin, Joliet & Eastern Railway during the 1950s and 60s, and according to the lawsuit, the plaintiff was exposed to the asbestos second hand from the clothing and person of his father. Company names in the lawsuit include GE, Georgia Pacific, Borg-Warner, Toyota, Nissan, Ford and Honda.
The plaintiff's father was never warned about the dangers of asbestos, this according to the lawsuit. Asbestos is a known carcinogenic that can result in a terminal cancer known as Mesothelioma, plus other serious health problems when exposed to the airborne dust and fibers of asbestos. The suit states the plaintiff, through his father's exposure and subsequently his, suffered pain, disability, lost earnings, medical bills, and other losses.
