MESOTHELIOMA IN GEORGIA
If you have been given the heart wrenching news that you have mesothelioma in Georgia, believe me you are not alone. Malignant mesothelioma is believed to be responsible for more than 200,000 deaths worldwide, with 2,000 to 3,000 new cases being diagnosed each year in the United States alone. We believe that Australia has had that many outbreaks as well each year. Out of those 3000 there were more than 300 cases in Georgia reported last year.
The relatively rare cancer is a latent disease, meaning that it can take anywhere from 30 to 40 years to become fully developed and begin displaying symptoms. In the early to late 50s and early 60s there were more than 125,000 employers that knowingly and willingly placed their employees in the line of fire exposing them to the deadly asbestos fibers around the work site. If you worked in Georgia 20-50 years ago and you were a laborer of some sort you may have been exposed to asbestos and do not even know it. Georgia-Pacific, an Atlanta based company stated asbestos liabilities relate primarily to products manufactured by Bestwall Gypsum Co. and Georgia-Pacific's gypsum business that contained small amounts of asbestos fiber. Georgia-Pacific acquired Bestwall Gypsum Co. in 1965, and discontinued using asbestos in the manufacture of these products in 1977.
That means if you were employed by this company during that time you have a legal right to file a claim. Mesothelioma in Georgia has actually become, although still rare, somewhat common in men over the age of 60 living in the smaller towns. Those small folks worked in asbestos plants and construction sites were asbestos was common place. Unbeknownst to them the deadly asbestos fibers were being inhaled every day at work. Then those few fibers that were not inhaled are deposited onto the clothes of said employee; when this employee comes home from work he drops the clothes off in the laundry basket where it is picked up and laundered by the employee’s wife or touched by his children. There is now a fifty fifty chance that the wife or children can develop symptoms many years later as well.
When diagnosed, malignant mesothelioma is often in an advanced stage, leading to a post-diagnosis survival time of between one and five years. The average age at diagnosis of mesothelioma is between 50 and 70 years old, with men being affected three to five times more often than women. The unfortunate thing about this disease is that it is fatal in every instance. Cancer centers around the country are constantly looking for ways to prolong the life of the mesothelioma diagnosee but for now this is a death sentence. If you or someone you love has been affected by this malignant cancer let the caring, experienced staff at The Maune Raichle Law Firm assist you with your case. Mesothelioma in Georgia is difficult enough as it is so please allow us to help you today.
